I installed this outlet thinking that it would be nice to have USB outlets on one of my countertops. Taking out the old outlet is simple enough, turn off power, take out old outlet. Wiring up the new outlet is easy enough, and even though the sample I was sent did not include a cover plate, I found one in my garage.
Even with the outlet pushed back as far as it will go, you can see that the outlet sticks out from the cover plate about 3/16 of an inch or so. Okay, so far so good. Power back on and the outlet works, the USB taps work. I plug in a small battery charger and I notice that one of the two USB outlets gets covered. When I plug in a wireless phone charger, both USB taps are now covered.
So, all in all it is a great idea that has some issues such as sticking out past the wall plate, the USB ports get covered up. At least the white matches pretty much with the wall plate that was not included with the outlet.

This is a combination USB and Duplex Receptacle. As such, the physical dimensions are lager than the duplex receptacle normally used in residential wiring. It is extremely well made and appears to be a very high quality receptacle. I rated it 5 stars and recommended it with the following reservations:
1. It should be installed by a licensed electrician.
2 The receptacle outlet box must have adequate room to fit this receptacle. This can be determined by a licensed electrician.
Note: I have been a licensed electrician for over 30 years and fitting this receptacle into one of outlet boxes was difficult.
If you decide to do it yourself, remember #2 above. TURN OFF THE BREAKER TO THE OUTLET YOU WISH TO REPLACE! The instruction set is very well written and easy to follow. The green screw is attached to the ground wire (may be green but normally is a bare wire). The silver screw is attached to the neutral wire (normally the white wire). The black screw is attached to the hot wire (normally black but may be any color except green or white). I have attached photos which should make identification of the screws easier. The instructions also identify these screws very clearly. Remember to buy the right face plate for this receptacle. I didn’t so another trip to !

20A with 2 USB Charging Ports
Before I start in about the specifics, please note if you are not the electrician-minded person, you cannot simply put a 20A outlet on a 15A circuit and expect an extra 5A. The wiring should be 12 gauge and the breaker a 20A breaker. A 15A will have 14Ga and a 15A breaker. That’s important to note as you don’t want to start a fire inside the walls of your house.
Also, there are no push-in wire holes in the back. All attached wires must be screwed down. AND, do NOT use aluminum wiring with this socket. Only copper wire should be used. Copper, 12Ga wire is what the walls should be wired with from the breaker to this outlet.
I’m building a new house and this is going in my office. Why do I have a 20A service to my office? Because I have a computer that when running heaving processing it’s pulling about 15A and I could use the extra 5A for my USB hard drives and monitors that are external to my computer.
You also might want the 20A outlet if it is for your workshop where your saws might need that 20A service, and you’d also like to charge your cell phone as you work in the shop.
It assume, although I could not find it specifically mentioned, that the 3.5A USB is split between the two USB plugs. That is, 1.75A each. Although, I could be wrong about that, but usually when more than 1 USB is involved it is spread equally between the plugs.
Like everything from Eaton, it is built with quality.

Eih.. neither of the USB ports work dependably.. both outlets keep losing power. Device is wired properly, just bad soldering on the internals is all I can think.

works as expected

The Eaton USB Charger Duplex Receptacle is a 20A receptacle with two standard type A USB ports.
The USB charger is also a 3.6A charger compared to the standard 2.0A charger you get with most devices. This charges extremely fast. At 48%, it will charge my cell phone in an hour. My old charger took over two hours to charge. I have two more of these but different brands. They’re three years old and still work great. When I put them in, one of the three, the USB didn’t work.. So basically, they either work or don’t!
You remove the old receptacle and wire this one in its place. It’s a standard three wire connection. Meaning there is a hot lead – black wire to black or brass screw. A white or neutral wire connects to the silver screw. And the bare ground connects to the green or grd connection. It is somewhat bigger than the original receptacle. So you will have to be neat when you tuck the wires back into the box.
I highly recommend this unit. Not only does it charge 2 USB devices fast. It is also a 20A receptacle that makes it ideal for a kitchen or workshop area. I already have one in those areas, so this one went in my bedroom!
